What is YGIG?
What is YGIG?
You Got It Girl (YGIG) is a summer camp, led by Shantell Jeter, for students aged 6-16 in the Boston area dedicated to empowering young girls through basketball, wellness, and research. This month-long program immersed participants in a wide range of physical activities, including basketball training, yoga and step dancing. This camp also introduced girls to Photo Voice research, a qualitative method used to tell stories using photos, allowing them to share their experiences creatively. Together, these opportunities helped girls strengthen their physical, social, and emotional skills.
How did the CHANGE Lab contribute?
In partnership with Boston Public Schools, the CHANGE Lab conducted an evaluation of the YGIG program and its impact. This collaboration is part of the lab's larger project CPA. Our team supported the camp’s initiatives and collected survey data to better understand the program’s outcomes and areas for growth.
What was the impact of the camp?
Through the summer camp, the girls were able to develop their basketball skills, engage in new physical activities, explore creativity, and build leadership skills. Through sport and research, we were able to create a lasting impact on children and their communities, fostering sisterhood and self-confidence.
