Structural Level

What is Health Inequity at the Structural Level?

Structural inequity refers to the "systematic disadvantage of one social group compared to other groups with whom they coexist that are deeply embedded in the fabric of society. Structural inequities encompass policy, law, governance, and culture and refer to race, ethnicity, gender or gender identity, class, sexual orientation, and other domains. These inequities produce systematic disadvantages, which lead to inequitable experiences of the social determinants of health and ultimately shape health outcomes" (Baciu, Alina, et al. “The Root Causes of Health Inequity," 2017).
